Where:

“Maremma” is a territory in the center of Italy , between South of Tuscany and North of Lazio.

More detailed Montebello is an hamlet in the heart of the ancient Etruscian area between the two historical towns of Tuscania and Tarquinia.

 

 

 

 

By car:

Coming from Rome , take the highway "Roma-Civitavecchia" (A16), arriving at Tarquinia follow the direction to Tuscania, after 6 km turn right in the direction of Montebello .

Coming from Florence , follow the higway "Milano-Napoli" (A1), leaving it at Orte in the direction of Viterbo. After Viterbo go until you reach Tuscania and follow the direction to Tarquinia. After 12 km, turn left in the direction of Montebello .

 

By train:

It´s easily connected by train using the line on the seaside (Roma-Ventimiglia), and you can stop at Tarquinia railway station.

 

 

What:

The hamlet of Montebello was founded in 1800 when was built the mason house. It stretches over 1.600 hectares of land. After the second world war, “Maremma” was subject to the Agrarian Reform Programme promoted by the State. The land was assigned to 150 small farmer families and the State provided them also houses and some financial supports in order to help them start up agricultural activities.

 


Today, most of these houses are not anymore farm houses, but used as second homes by artists, managers, and others who appreciate the quite landscape and the relaxing atmosphere of the place.

 

 

When:

You can visit Maremma all through the year. In summer you can enjoy the sea, the hills or the lake.

In winter you can take baths in warm thermal baths, naturally in the countryside or in Spas, near Viterbo. In spring or autumn colors and tastes of the area can give you big satisfaction and invite you to hiking or horse back riding.
